What is the UCR (Unified Carrier Registration)?
The Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) is a program that has taken over from the old system where you registered in just one state. Now, any business that operates trucks across state lines has to pay a yearly fee that depends on how many trucks they have. This money helps pay for state programs that register trucks and keep roads safe. You need to sign up for this in a state that takes part in the program.
All carriers like private, for-hire or exempt carriers must register. This also includes:
  • Broker
  • Freight Forwarder
  • Leasing Company

What is the UCR Fee Structure?
You’ll pay your registration fees to a designated “Base State” that acts on behalf of others in the program. If your home state doesn’t participate, select a participating neighbouring state to make your payment. Non-participating states are: Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, Oregon, Vermont, Wyoming, and Washington D.C.
UCR Renewal and Penalties

Renewing your registration for commercial motor vehicles is a breeze. However, neglecting your UCR payment can have serious repercussions for your business, including the possibility of vehicle impoundment. The penalties for non-compliance can be steep, ranging from fines of $100 to over $5000 for a first offense. It’s crucial to keep your UCR up to date.
